The Horror Of...Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, In Short

As we head into the weekend let's consider some more adventurous fare, along with the more intense.Back in 2011, we had an adaptation of sorts of a comic book. Yes, I know, that doesn't narrow things down much these days.

In this case I am talking about an Italian comic book. Dylan Dog.

Now, many have pointed out that the movie is quite different from the original text. And having come across and skimmed a few stories that were released in the US, I will agree it is different. The original is much more along the lines of DC Comic's Hellblazer. This movie has dark elements, but is much lighter with a different humor. Still, seeing as most people don't read Italian comics, the movie should be able to stand on it's own merits.

And on it's own, the movie can make for some lighter viewing. The thing to remember with this movie is to not take it too seriously. Now, it has it's gory moments, and fights. But it focuses more on it's adventure/mystery in the strange world of New Orleans.

In the city their are different factions, interests, and monsters.

Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies, and Others.

And into this mess, Dylan Dog is dragged back in. He's a private detective that specializes in the paranormal, and the monsters of the city. Once upon a time he found himself acting as a mediator for the monsters. But that ended. While he considered himself retired from the messy business, he eventually is drawn back when a young woman is need of answers and protection from...something that is out to kill her.

Dylan Dog is played by Brandon Routh.

His colleague, Marcus, is played by Sam Huntingdon.

And, Elizabeth, the client in need of help is played by Anita Briem.

So Dylan beings chasing down why his client is being beset by the city's monsters. And he finds a confusing mess. Different factions have different interests. Different grievances. Different petty concerns.

And as Dylan and Marcus work their way through the mystery they also struggle to stay alive, or at least in one piece.

So, if you want a bit of mystery and humor mixed in with your vampires, werewolves, and zombies, this could be for you. And, if you'd like some Brandon Routh in your Halloween week, this is really for you.

Slot it into your movie plans this weekend and next week, and you should have a good time. Enjoy.
