It opens with and uncomfortable Ned Flanders being asked to join what looks to be an unsavory event.
It's the Simpsons. And they ask him to join them in a seance that they're doing. But they tell him they could contact his dead wife, Maude.
He finally relents and joins the attempt to contact Maude Flanders.
So they get underway, and someone calls out to them. It's Bart, dressed up in an approximation of Maude Flanders' outfit.
The family acts aghast at what they are seeing.
And Bart thinks he's really got them this time...
..But that's only because he hasn't seen what lies behind him.
Maude changes and freaks everyone out more.
Maude asks them if they are ready to hear some terrifying tales. And Lisa is very bored with the question, as that's why the show is on that night anyway.
So Maude pulls a book out from her torso...And doesn't Maude remind you of the dad on Rugrats?
Weird.
And on the cover? The title.
This is a decent opening. It's not the 12th opening, but that is the benchmark. This is an opening that has fun with the characters as we know them, and puts them in a brief and classic horror tale, with a funny button on the end of it. And it was an excuse to bring back Maude.
It works.
And the tales told this time?
and
and
..which gives us scenes of...
...and...
That ought to put several people off of meat and milk.
What ever will the Simpsons' team come off with next?
Let's see.
Now on to Year XIV!
