Remember the Treehouse of Horror 10 title sequence?

And now, coming out of 1998, we reach the 10th year of these annual extravaganzas. (And we're not even at the current half way point!) And it's 1999, so you know it's gonna be a party!

And for this party, we start out with some theatrics.

And then one set of curtains are pulled back, to reveal the title.

Then a pumpkin rocket lands, cause that's the kind of show this is.

Two eye balls appear in the eye holes. And the front of the pumpkin ship opens. Kang and Kodos are inside, last scene in the last Halloween Special.

The are hosting the special, as a cliche 70's variety show (Granted, every variety show in a 70's cliche.).

They leap right into some very awkward and forced jokes, as is a must with a variety show.

And the canned laughter machine is loving it.

We cut to the Simpsons on the couch, watching the show. Of note, everyone is dressed as a character they were in a previous Treehouse of Horror. The Homer in a Box. Marge the Witch. Maggie the Alien Lovechild. Lisa the ax murder victim...Where was that one? And, Bart the Fly.

And Lisa remarks that it makes no sense for aliens to host a show about Halloween.

In response, Maggie tells her to be silent (Shout out to last year.).

And Maggie disintegrates her. That shows you Lisa, being too smart (My shout out to the first special.), and not cooperating with the in joke.

Also, this counts, I think, as the title sequences couch gag.

It is a goofy open, with a sense of celebration for the fact that they've been cranking out these specials for a decade.

It has some simplicity. But it will get a laugh as you go into the latest set of tales. Included this year...

...which gives lovely look back to 1999...

...and the flight of long dead careers...
