Creeping Up On Halloween With Jem

What's a perfect fit for Halloween? Some music. Some costumes. Outrageousness. How about Jem and the Holograms.

No. Not the new movie. That would make no sense. I mean 80's cartoons, and 80's music.

And Jem just happens to have a Halloween episode. Seems a local opera house is in danger of closing. Luckily Jem and the Holograms step in to save it, with music.

While you muse about taking the second season DVD off your shelf, we can all enjoy the episode's songs.

Creeping Up On Halloween With Friday the 13th Part 3

No this isn't a review of Jason's second trip to summer camp (Or is it the third if you count the flashbacks?). Rather let's just take a moment to enjoy a taste of the 80's. A Disco...ish opening theme. And the effort to do some 3D credits. Oh, yeah.

You can move to it, you can run from it, but you'll never escape it.

Whether or not you ever see this movie, you need to feel the 80's glory in this opening title sequence.

Of course there is another part of this movie you should also revel in. Partake in the wonder of Crispin Glover dancing.

Can't you imagine him groving to that opeing?

Masks. Machettes. Moms. Oh, no. Music. It's all about that music.

Enjoy that opening music as you prep for your Halloween.

Creeping Up On Halloween With KISS

When you want some metal music and make up, you go to one place first at Halloween. KISS.

When I was a kid there was a magic to KISS. (...Okay. As I've said before, I was more the kid freaked out by the likes of them.) It was that 70's turn 80's time. It was their prime. God, I remember KISS toys  in stores.

And it's been joked about, but it was also quite real. KISS TV movie. KISS Meets The Phantom Of The Park (And that is the official name of the movie.). KISS didn't love the film, but it is part of their mythos, and is a great film to check out this October.

Revel in this ad.

I do love these Big 3 Movies of the Week.

Creeping Up On Halloween With Alice Cooper and his Nightmare

Some suitable music is always necessary for setting the Halloween mood.

There are many good options, from soundtracks to symphonies to some rock. A lovely addition to any Halloween playlist is Alice Cooper.

Welcome to his nightmare.

Trailers In Short - The Tunes and Toons Edition

It's the time of year when we need some childlike fun, and some merry songs to tide us through blustery cold days.

Time for some fun from LEGO's take on the heroes of the DC Universe.Time for the five armies to meet. Time for Snoopy to...do whatever he does, And it's time for some song and dance with a musical witch. And, Galavant, again.

LEGO Justice League Vs Bizarro League

Ah. Another LEGO film. I have so far found the DC animated LEGO films to be quite fun. I like their take on the pantheon of heroes. The humor, animation, and characters feel like they all work together. (Honestly, the Marvel ones haven't worked as well for me. They just feel too goofy.)

But this time out we get a turn with Bizarro. And Bizarro has decided to create some friends. So that means, after so many, years, we get a look at Bizarro's take on the Justice League again.

I don't think I've seen any of them since the days of the Super Friends. I guess they've brought them back in some forms at times.

Though the logic of the Bizarro's is tricky. Do everything opposite. It's hard not to do without being very silly. They've turned more to be more tragic to me in recent years. Bizarro ends up being a strange confused unwanted outsider.

But that's why it's more fun to use the concept with LEGO, where everything can be tongue in cheek!

But I don't think we've had a Bizarro World for awhile. It's supposed to be a square duplication of Earth. Sometimes it seemed it had some variety of people. But often it was a lot of Superman duplicates (Hence why you often Bizarro with a "No. 1" medallion around his neck. He's the original and worst.)

But then you had the team.

Ah.

So we get a tale of them being created from LEGO, and how they end up helping the Justice League against Darkseid. We get to see the value of a Bizarro.

It sounds like fun.

And how can I now resist adding the DC Nation short with Bizarro?

Return of the Space Oddity

To lighten the color of my distemper, a little music.

I guess the Bowie legal team decided to play nice with those that tread beyond our Earth. Chris Hadfield's version of Space Oddity is back for people to enjoy.

So enjoy it!

Adventure! Who doesn't want it? Okay, not everyone. But we all do, right? So let's quest for a feast. Let's best a good book. And let's see if anyone can hit the right note.

Feast. Librarians. Galavant.

Disney's Feast

Okay this is just too cute. I wonder what the whole short will be? But if it's just a stray that finds a home and has a love affair with food...It'll still be cute.

Why can't I hug animation?!

The Librarians

So, finally, after 10 years we are getting a series.

Creeping Up On Halloween With The Muppets

[I've updated a lost video, and now relabeled and named this to be part of the Creeping Up On Halloween posts.]

It's October, so we need plenty of horror. And what better for this than the Muppets. Always a good source for your Halloweening needs.

They can help you get the right foods ready.

The Swedish Chef vies with some pumpkins.

And then help monsters find friends.

A monster who wants friends...and to eat.

Loving the South

I am getting a but late to this, as so many things. But I wanted to suggest a good blog on politics, culture, news, and more.

Big Blue Dot Y'all

It  is being written by kchapmangibbons (at @kcgibbons on twitter). It's a nice blog for thoughts and information, given from a liberal Nashvillians point of view.

Among her shared insight is on the why's of being a blue dot. This term reflects how many of us, while living in largely red (conservative...I don't know why I'm over explaining.) states do represent blue (...You know what that means.) dots, oases, in sometimes extreme conservative deserts (Hey, I'm completing the metaphor.).

While some liberals do like to be oblivious to it, every state is more than red or blue. There are the Austins and Nashvilles. Also some people and places are changing and growing. Beyond them, their are just the individuals and families that represent. And they represent, because they are home, and they want to embrace what's good and change what isn't good.

So, take time to enjoy here insight and views of the good from a place you may never visit. Or maybe it is close to the life you live, and you'll enjoy the sharing.

Eating Brains at Work

Here is a video that takes John Coulton's great song to another level.

And if you do like Coulton's music, you can easily find more in iTunes, among other spots. It is all geeky fun.

TV: About the Gays

Ah, the liberal media.

Now apparently we just had one of those awards shows on the TV, this one for music. Who care. I don't. But as part of them you get to see some of the top artist do what they do best (in theory). Among those that performed at this particular awards show was one Adam Lambert (formerly of American Idol). I am guessing his career is going well, and this was a chance to show his craft.

Good for him. Bad for him though is the fact that he apparently, as part of the show showed affection to others on stage. That's not new, but it was...another man. That is beyond the pale. Remember Madonna and Britney Spears kissing? Remember the horror? Remember it being blotted from memory and records? No? Seen it on TV or in a magazine some time, or numerous times since?

Guess what, it isn't the same here. No. A dude kissed another dude. That breaks dude law, totally. So what happen...beyond the disgust at all the dirtiness.

ABC's morning show had Lambert booked to come on and play. Guess who was no longer welcome at ABC?

But then CBS snatched him up for there morning show. Guess what they did, as a bold progressive voice? They blurred the image of the kiss. But it is a morning show, they were careful...oh, they showed the Madonna/Spears kiss without a second thought, unedited?

Huh?

What's the message there?

McKay Time

Feministing was pointing to this great video of musician and song writer Nellie McKay doing what she does best, asking good witty music.

When is it time for Nellie McKay? ...Anytime!

An anthem for us.

I haven't seen or heard this in awhile, but it, sadly (?), speaks to me.

Weird Al - White & Nerdy

A little too much of it ressembles me.
