The Horror Of...Halloween Night, Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem

Sitting down for some early morning nourishment. Have to head out on a trip. Perfect time for some Halloween Captain Crunch. I need to fill up on my...green.

Yeah, I know Scotty...

...but it's my cereal.

Anyway, with this I need something else curious. A more recent superhero take. A chance to ride with Batman...and his robowolf...

The Horror Of...Halloween Night, Phineas and Ferb - "Night of the Living Pharmacist"

On the one hand, I think we all need some more toons. But on the other hand, have we had enough zombies? I don't know. This Halloween needs some more more cartoons, but how can I work zombies in? In a fun way.

Phineas and Ferb.

The Horror Of...Halloween Night, Justice League Action - "Trick or Treat"

Another morning, another bowl of Count Chocula, and another chance to delve into superheroes and horror.

This time we can delve into a more recent DC series that would fit nicely into the old Saturday Morning format. Justice League Action.

And the shows has a Halloween episode!

The Horror Of...Halloween Night, Phineas and Ferb - "Druselsteinoween" - It's a thing!

Another weekend, and another chance for some cartoon fun. So let's head back to see how Phineas and Ferb are handle one year's Halloween fun, or rather some Drusselsteinian Halloween fun.

"Druselsteinoween"

And I know what your thinking. "But everyone knows Drusselstein is spelled with 2 S's not 1. What the hell?" I know, man. It's bugged me for years to.

The Horror Of...Halloween Night, Legion of Super Heroes - Fear Factory

You wake up on a weekend morning...or noonish, you need some Count Chocula and other vital nourishment, but then what do you watch to start up the day's Horror Marathon? You could go off the deep end with The Re-Animator or Hellraiser. But what about that ancient and forgotten ritual of the morning toons?

How about some superheroic fun and fright? And what fun it would be to find it in a future time, when you could rely on a legion of friends to back you up. It's time to take flight.

The Horror Of...Halloween Night, Phineas and Ferb - Terrifying Tri-State Trilogy of Terror

Halloween is a time for kids of all ages. But some of the kids are actually kids. And some of us have a common mentality to kids. So it's time again to delve into the more juvenile fun and wit that should make any of us laugh like jack o'lantern...Well, smile at least.

So let's hearken back a few years to Phineas and Ferb, and their first Halloween Special from 2013.

Still, for those new to the show, a reminder of what it's about. This is a Disney series that ran from 2007 to 2015. It is the brain child of Dan Povenmire and Jeff Marsh. The show is an animated series  about young kids, a platypus, and a mad scientist that uses humor and song to great effect.

The titular characters are Phineas and Ferb, stepbrothers looking to make the most of their summer vacation. So each day has an insane project to accomplish. Build a time machine. Invent the ultimate roller coaster. Build the largest tower ever. And they tend to be quite successful.

Along the way they have to deal with their sister Candace, who disapproves of the dangerous things they get up to. She continuously tries to call them out to their mom, but is never successful.

Perry the Platypus is the pet of the boys. But he is also a secret agent for OWCA (Organization Without a Cool Acronym). It's there job to keep tabs on and take out mad scientist bent on world domination.

Which leads us to Dr. Doofenshmirtz. He's a mad scientist bent on Tri-State domination. He is driven by jealousy of his brother, who is the successful local mayor, and his own self-loathing. He daily has a new plot that Perry needs to foil.

While the show primarily a summer based series (It broke convention after a time.), they managed to get to Halloween type fun (Halloween will not be stopped!).

So we all get Phineas and Ferb - "Terrifying Tri-State Trilogy of Terror".

The Horror Off...Halloween Night, A Disney Halloween (1983)

"Mo-o-om! I'll bring in the other boxes
tomorrow!"
Sometimes the little kiddies need a treat come Halloween night. Some because they're too young to Trick or Treat. Some because they get home and need something to watch as they count their candy horde.

And what is the easier choice of amusement for the kiddies to start relaxing with than Disney. Disney the opiate of the minors.

One interesting choice from a day long past is A Disney Halloween. It was shown in 1983. I've seen it also called Disney's Halloween Treat. It may be that at different times it's been shown over the years that the name changed. "Disney Halloween Treat" seems to be the title of the song that plays at the start of the special, so it may have stuck, but I don't know. And who cares along as we get a nice dose of Mickey and his friends, right?

Okay, actually it seems this special combines the Disney's Halloween Treat from the previous year with the older Disney's Greatest Villains. And I think I know why I prefer this one. It adds the Magic Mirror as a character. But we'll get to him

Like many Disney series at the time (though this was while they were showing on CBS), we open with an introduction Michael Eisner, head of Disney who was trying to play the role Walt Disney used to play. (If you've read my Mr. Boogedy and Bride of Boogedy reviews, you've seen examples of his openings from back then.) This time around the people at Disney are getting ready for a Halloween party. Mickey and Minnie stop by to show off their costumes.

Then Goofy comes in to show the costume he's been working on for a month.

And into the special!

Creeping Up On Halloween With Jem

What's a perfect fit for Halloween? Some music. Some costumes. Outrageousness. How about Jem and the Holograms.

No. Not the new movie. That would make no sense. I mean 80's cartoons, and 80's music.

And Jem just happens to have a Halloween episode. Seems a local opera house is in danger of closing. Luckily Jem and the Holograms step in to save it, with music.

While you muse about taking the second season DVD off your shelf, we can all enjoy the episode's songs.

Trailers In Short - The Tunes and Toons Edition

It's the time of year when we need some childlike fun, and some merry songs to tide us through blustery cold days.

Time for some fun from LEGO's take on the heroes of the DC Universe.Time for the five armies to meet. Time for Snoopy to...do whatever he does, And it's time for some song and dance with a musical witch. And, Galavant, again.

LEGO Justice League Vs Bizarro League

Ah. Another LEGO film. I have so far found the DC animated LEGO films to be quite fun. I like their take on the pantheon of heroes. The humor, animation, and characters feel like they all work together. (Honestly, the Marvel ones haven't worked as well for me. They just feel too goofy.)

But this time out we get a turn with Bizarro. And Bizarro has decided to create some friends. So that means, after so many, years, we get a look at Bizarro's take on the Justice League again.

I don't think I've seen any of them since the days of the Super Friends. I guess they've brought them back in some forms at times.

Though the logic of the Bizarro's is tricky. Do everything opposite. It's hard not to do without being very silly. They've turned more to be more tragic to me in recent years. Bizarro ends up being a strange confused unwanted outsider.

But that's why it's more fun to use the concept with LEGO, where everything can be tongue in cheek!

But I don't think we've had a Bizarro World for awhile. It's supposed to be a square duplication of Earth. Sometimes it seemed it had some variety of people. But often it was a lot of Superman duplicates (Hence why you often Bizarro with a "No. 1" medallion around his neck. He's the original and worst.)

But then you had the team.

Ah.

So we get a tale of them being created from LEGO, and how they end up helping the Justice League against Darkseid. We get to see the value of a Bizarro.

It sounds like fun.

And how can I now resist adding the DC Nation short with Bizarro?

Remember the Treehouse of Horror 25 title sequence?

The 2013 show proved to be quite a spectacle. But will 2014 try to top it, or go another way?

This year they open on some planet and the big show there. They begin announcing an array of stars that will be appearing. They also start playing the classic Tonight Show music. Is that still being used? If not, when was the last time it was used since the days of Johnny Carson?

We then get a variety of shots from various Treehouse of Horrors over the years. It is a nice call back to many of the stories that they told. I actually am blanking on some of them. Makes for a good excuse to go and enjoy them this weekend.

Remember the Treehouse of Horror 24 title sequence?

Now done with 2012, what will 2013 bring?! Well, they gave plenty of notice that Guillermo Del Toro was going to create the 2013 Treehouse of Horror opening. Anticipation was palpable.

We start much the way a normal episode opens, but with a stormy night's sky. In fact it is reminiscent of the original openings with the storm. Also the normal opening bird has been modified.

And then it's killed.

Now on to The Simpsons.
